Pietra Possamai is a Brazilian winemaker, originally from Bento Gonçalves in Brazil's Serra Gaúcha wine region, who leads winemaking at Bodega Murga in Peru's historic Pisco Valley (in the Humay district, roughly 25 km from the Pacific coast).
Bodega Murga grew out of a 2014 conversation between friends who set out to revive traditional vine-growing in the valley, and they planted their first hectares of Albilla, Italia, Negra Criolla, and Quebranta vines at Fundo Murga, an estate dating back to the 1700s.
Possamai joined the project under founder Arturo Inga, a sommelier and official Pisco taster, bringing energy, creativity, and professional experience that shape the estate's wines, working alongside pisco distiller Alberto Di Laura, known as "El Caballero del Pisco."
The decision to make chemical-free wines was made in 2017, with Possamai spearheading the winemaking process, and she works exclusively with native Peruvian criolla (pisco) grapes—traditionally used only for distillation—crafted naturally with minimal intervention, skin contact, concrete eggs, and amphorae. Bodega Murga is considered a pioneer of Peru's tiny natural wine movement, one of only two or three such producers in the country, and its roughly 24 hectares make it the largest natural wine project in Peru, producing wines known for moderate alcohol, saline character from Pacific influence, and aromatic complexity.
